Glenn first became familiar with DSC in 1989 when we were forming our first policy making Corporate Board. Glenn was elected Chairman of the Board at that time. Those were troubled years for DSC and Glenn’s participation on the Board was critical to our survival. While Glenn chaired the Board, the Executive Director had resigned, the number of people served had declined and the organization was very deep in debt. Glenn worked with community members and business organizations to allow DSC room to pay off our debts and start to provide quality services again. Within four years Glenn turned the organization around and by the end of the fourth year we had met all our financial obligations for the year and we managed to save $749.00.
Glenn moved on to Episcopal Community services to become the Executive Director of the Ecumenical Council and he resigned from the Board after serving for over 6 years. Glenn continued to be a good friend to DSC, attending our annual functions and supporting our fund raising efforts.
In 2006 Glenn called and said his heart was with DSC and the work we were doing to support people with developmental disabilities. We were very excited when Glenn agreed to become our first Director of Development. He worked tirelessly to promote DSC in the community. Glenn’s last project was our Sit-A-Thon. While he was in hospice we asked him if we could name the Sit-A-Thon the Reverend Glenn Allison Memorial Sit-A-Thon, he said he would be honored. We are honored to fulfill our commitment to Glenn as he had fulfilled his commitment to DSC.
